About Summerville Road

Summerville Road is a gravel road located in NW South Dakota connecting the White Butte Road with Hwy 73 at Shadehill, SD. Rich in history, this is where Hugh Glass was attacked by a grizzly bear, left to die, and from where he began his courageous journey to Ft. Kiowa at Chamberlain, SD. It is the home of Shady, a triceratops recently discovered in the badlands of the National Grasslands. A hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation paradise, the area remains unspoiled with sweeping landscapes and beautiful sunsets. Shadehill is where the artist, photographer, and creator of Summerville Road lived as a child and teenager. Growing up on a ranch only 4 miles from Shadehill Reservoir, I spent many hours roaming the prairie, immersed in nature and the beauty of the surrounding area. Summerville Road is the route I frequently traveled between the ranch and the lake. Later in life, I returned home, and now spend my free time capturing the scenery in images which are the inspiration for my designs.
